Okay, Universe of Lost Messages is a science fiction thriller and it is so good. The premise: two Charismites — people with near-godlike charismatic powers — get abducted by a political organization called The Fist that wants to use them to control humanity. A street-smart teen named Cheeta discovers a metaverse where lost messages float in bubbles, and that turns out to be the key to finding the missing people.

The world-building is great, the characters are distinct and compelling, and there’s a slow-burn romance that pays off beautifully. Kirkus called it “deliberately paced” and that’s right — let it take you there.
