You should totally read Mary Whitcombe if you like historical fiction with actual stakes. It’s set in the early 1800s and follows Mary, an orphan who grows up wealthy, gets sent to a convent (quite a culture shock), falls in love with the gardener, and then has to face the world alone when tragedy strikes.
Nifora writes her so well — you’re rooting for Mary the whole time, and the story gets genuinely tense in the second half. Murder, deceit, romance — it’s all in there. More action-packed than the cover suggests.
Great read. Nifora is an author to watch.
