Roger Spitz’s Disrupt with Impact: Achieve Business Success in an Unpredictable World (Kogan Page) has a stronger foundation than most, though it makes some trade-offs to get there.

What works: Spitz introduces two original frameworks, the Disruptive Thinking Canvas and the AAA framework (Antifragile, Anticipatory, Agility), and both feel genuinely useful. They’re structured enough to apply but flexible enough to survive contact with an actual business. The San Francisco Book Review, in a 4.5-star review, noted the book offers “a step-by-step approach to embracing and driving the kinds of changes that a business requires in order to thrive.” That’s accurate. Compared to something like Gary Hamel’s Competing for the Future (more theoretical) or Eric Ries’s The Lean Startup (more narrow in scope), Spitz occupies a middle ground that’s practical without being prescriptive.

What doesn’t: The modular, bite-sized format is a strength for busy readers but a limitation for anyone wanting deep analysis of specific industries. SFBR’s reviewer noted the book is “written in bite-sized sections that are packed with information,” and that packing is sometimes tight. You occasionally want Spitz to slow down and spend 20 pages with one example instead of three pages with five.

The credentials: Spitz chairs the Disruptive Futures Institute, ranks among Global Gurus’ Top 15 Futurists Worldwide, and keynoted MIT Technology Review’s EmTech. The book has won awards from Foreword Indies (Bronze), Chanticleer (First Place), and Readers’ Favorite (Bronze).

Bottom line: If you read one business book on strategic thinking this year, this is a strong candidate. The frameworks will outlast the trend cycle, the writing respects your time, and the advice carries across sectors. Spitz built something that works. The book earns its awards.
